The choice of indoor waterfalls today is wonderful, with free standing or wall waterfalls of many shapes, sizes and design available. Some are very unusual or unique, some come in modern sleek appearances, while others try to add a more traditional tone to your decor.

As an interior home decor feature, indoor waterfalls are worth their weight in gold, if well chosen to complement the rest of the decor. But like any piece of furniture or decor, if you choose the wrong one it will not enhance but detract from the overall effect of your interior design.

Your first decision to take is whether you want a free standing or wall waterfall.

Freestanding Indoor Waterfalls

The example above is a freestanding waterfall, of simple modern design but with a pretty glass decoration that could come from an earlier period. The water falls in the interior of this stainless steel mirror like feature, as it does in many of the interior waterfalls.

If you prefer to look for something of sleek very modern design, and with freeflowing water on the outside rather than within, then the waterfall on the left is an example. This curvy, sculpture like waterfall in blue is made of acrylic, with water flowing freely down the outside face. It has a coloured powder coating.

In this case the waterfall has been set off against a seperate modern sculpture, but with a colour like this bright blue, you do need to be careful of the surrounding decor and the overall design of the room.

Indoor Wall Waterfalls

I have to admit that a few years back I would not even have thought of putting an indoor waterfall on the wall. But, if you have a strong enough wall, why not? We have had centuries of still pictures adorning the wall, so adding a bit of movement and the sound of flowing water is a natural and welcome evolution.

Wall mounted waterfalls can be an excellent contribution to home decor, and again, like freestanding waterfalls, there is a wide choice to give you the scope to find the right one for your own home.

Natural copper and slate are popular with wall waterfalls, and as you can see on the right, combining both can be very attractive.

You can find examples of wall waterfalls that have water flowing outside or inside. Personally I prefer water to be flowing outside, especially as the waterflow is said to give off negative ions. It is also more natural. However, both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Pebbles and water could not be more natural together, so in many indoor waterfalls you will find the use of pebbles quite common. The pebbles, as in nature, can be in many different colours, and all pebbles are unique. The example of a wall mounted waterfall you can see left is a natural pebble waterfall. This is made from multi-coloured slate, with a clear coated copper finish.
