Garden Ornaments
For the small garden, statues and other outside garden decor needs to be in a much smaller scale than those of the country mansions and stately homes of England. That is why there is now a very good supply of garden ornaments to fulfil that need.
Garden ornaments are mostly based on their larger scale brothers and sisters, keeing going the old traditions but in the smaller modern garden.
To add to the tradition, without the large expense of natural stone sculptures, new material combinations have been developed to give the impression of a vintage or antique sculpture. One such combination is fiberstone, which mixes sand and stone, and is then cast with a technique similar to terrazzo. When ready, the "stone" is then treated on the surface to give it a unique vintage or antique appearance.
The above candle holder is produced by using this method, and as you can see it has an authentic appearance. At first sight you could think it was centuries old. In fact, each ornament is created to order, so they could hardly be more modern than when you buy. fiberstone is less prone to damage than pure stone, and is also lighter.
The candle holder would make a good decoration for the terrace, or within a large conservatory, as well as any other well positioned site in the garden where it would blend in with the design and other garden decor.
Another very interesting example, shown left, reflects an ancient Roman architecture, being a fiberstone version of Roman pillars. These are very effective replicas, but like the candle holders need to be sited with care to display to full effect.
Using such ornaments as these, which look old and traditional, means that you should try to stick to that theme throughout the garden, or in a larger garden within a section of the garden which is separate. If mixed with obviously modern ornaments, such as brightly coloured garden gnomes, you would not do these ornaments justice, and disrupt the overall effect of your garden design and its decor.

If you wanted to add a French touch, and perhaps imagine you are in the garden of a French chateua the same methods and materials are used to produce the French garden bouquet pictured on the left. Something to admire while you relax in the garden drinking a glass or two of French wine.
