Cancer as a Threat to Men's Health

After heart disease, cancer is the next leading cause of death amongst Americans. According to the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), nearly 288,000 men died of cancer in 2003. Of those, lung cancer was the number one killer, with 89964 men dying of lung cancer. After lung cancer, prostate cancer was the second most likely cancer to kill men, followed by colorectal cancer.

Like heart disease and diabetes, cancer is a lifestyle disease, one that hardly existed in the 19th century and earlier. Americans do seem to suffer most, and some scientists are convinced poor diet and nutrition, and intake of toxins from the atmosphere, are to blame. This leads to a lowering of body alkalinity, and consequently immune system responses. Cancer thrives when the body's Ph falls below the neutral level of 7.

What Can Be Done to Prevent Cancer?

It is not possible to turn back the clock to the 19th century way of life; however, lessons can be learned from it:

1. Cancer is a symptom of a failing immune system, rather than a disease. Look after your immune system. Eat a well balanced diet, with plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially those of a dark green or yellow color. Take nutritional supplements as necessary, especially vitamins C and E. Many studies into Omega 3 fatty acids have shown, and are showing, benefits not only to heart health, but cancer also.

2. Exercise for about half an hour a day most days of the week. The sedentary life of today was not common in the 19th century, men tended to be more active.

3. Do not smoke. If you do smoke, it is your number one priority to stop. Self hypnosis is probably the best way; you are the one who has to be convinced you will stop smoking. About 90% of lung cancer cases are as a result of smoking; lung cancer can be a very painful way to die. If you live in the US, it may also cripple you financially, and leave your family in difficulties.

4. Check your alkalinity. A Ph of 7 is neutral, and cancer cells form in acidic conditions. Modern American and British diets tend to be too acidic. Altering the balance of your foods and drinks in favor of alkaline alternatives will restore your Ph balance, and thus provide a hostile environment for cancer cells to flourish.

5. Drink plenty of water, which is needed by every part of the body to maintain health and heal when necessary. Avoid tap water, as it can contain many chemicals from farming which are toxic. The water company may say the levels are safe, but they cannot be sure of the cumulative toxic affect of such a mix of poisons. Filtered alkaline water is probably best.
