Having a beach home is a dream of many millions of people, I am sure. Whether it be in the US or some exotic tropical location, living not just close to the sea, but by the beach itself, opens up a whole new lifestyle. But what about having the beach as your front garden? Where does that leave you with outside decor and furnishings?

For the "garden" read "beach". Instead of garden decor, think of beach decor; furniture for an outside life, but with sand at your feet instead of soil.

I am fortunate enough to live on a tropical island, and will shortly have a beach property to call our own. It also happens to be an island where narra wood is treasured. Now protected by licence, and becoming rare for furniture, narra is the top Philippine hardwood and is sometimes available for export.

For outside furniture for that luxury beach home, narra can be a wonderful choice if you can find it. Above left is pictured a narra sala set, which can be used either inside or as part of your beach decor, for enjoying life on the wooden terrace of your beach home.

Do you enjoy an outside drink, and have memories of sitting at a beach side bar at one of your favourite holiday resorts? In that case, the wheel bar shown left, made from Molave, may appeal to you. With it's highly manoeuvrable stools, this set could really set off your beach garden on a warm sunny day, as you make the most of the beach and the sea.

For the evenings, some sort of lighting is needed to enjoy the beach life long into the evening. Lanterns can fit the part very well, scattered around your beach garden, or just lighting the pathway to the gate.

It is worth having a good look around the nautical outside decor pages, or go straight to the nautical decor store. The pelican welcome sign left is a typical example of an item of nautical decor which will look good outside any beach home. With the nautical theme, it is quite easy to find items that are in keeping with the beach home ideal.
