Balusters and Balustrades For Garden and Terrace Decor

The use of balusters goes back many centuries. Grouped together to form bulustrades, they have been used in the past primarily for roof parapets and balconies, as well as staircases. However, as the house and garden have come closer together, blustrades can be used effectively to aid the transition from the living area of the home to the living garden.

In warmer climes particularly, home life can be as much outside as inside the house, so balustrades can come in useful for adding a vintage style to the boundaries of a terrace, which forms a transition from house to garden. In marble and other stone, the use of balustrades can bring a classic touch even to a modern home, so long as the design of the home, and garden, provide a suitable foil for their presence.Double Balustrade

Modern balusters and balustrades can come in man made aggregates that are lighter to handle and less easily damaged. fiberstone and Fibreglass can both be used very effectively in the manufacture of balusters, and once cast, can be finished to give a vintage look to the final product, as well as being very hardwearing.

Balusters come in a great variety of shapes, some simple as in those pictured, or others more intricately carved or moulded to give a sculpted classic design. Also, colours can be quite varied in the Fibreglass and fiberstone balusters, but choices need to be made with great care to suit the home and garden.

If you have a large garden, you could use balustrades in other ways. For example, if you have a summerhouse with its own area of garden, that area could be enclosed by the balustrade instead of a fence. With a well kept lawn, that could be quite effective, and would complete the journey of the balustrade from the rooftop of the house, via the terrace, to the garden itself.
